Postpartum Mindfulness

Short practices for the long nights and tender days after a baby arrives.

The early months after a baby arrives are sometimes called the fourth trimester. Almost nothing about them is how people said they would be. The nights are long, the body is recovering, and some of the feelings that show up are ones no one warned you about.

Postpartum Mindfulness is a small set of short practices for exactly those months: rest as part of healing rather than a reward to be earned, the 3 a.m. worry when sleep will not come, bonding with your baby on their terms, and the rage and guilt that visit new parents more often than anyone says out loud. One session is written for the non-birthing partner, for the invisible load they carry.

It opens with a two-minute welcome that says plainly what this is, who it is for, and where to turn if you need more than a practice. It is written for whoever is holding it together, however your baby came to you.

A prompt from inside

When did you feel most like yourself this week, even for a moment? Take five minutes, whenever you can steal them, and write how it really is. Not how you think it should be.

Journal prompts in Stillee are short on purpose. Three sentences is usually enough. Five is plenty. The point is the look, not the essay.
